Clinton: "... I went to Kingston, you know, and after a few months
I met up with the Gladiators, Erroll Grandison from the Gladiators. It
was Erroll Grandison, Albert Griffiths and this guy named Weber, I can`t
remember his real name, but we called him Weber, and he left the group, so it
was two of them then. And Erroll Grandison passed by me, it was one day I was
strumming on the guitar and, you know, and singing, and he came over and was
humming along too and harmonizing, and he said you know what, man, I`m in a
group, you know, the Gladiators, and we need another member, so I`m gonna tell
Albert to come see you. And a few days later Albert came by and we started
jamming together, and then I joined the group there, and I ended up
spending like 18 years with the Gladiators.
Ranja: How many albums did you release with the Gladiators?
Clinton: With the Gladiators, I think it was something like about 13.

Ranja: How do you like your role as band leader compared to the role
as a bassist in the Gladiators? Clinton: Well, this is what I wanted to
do long time ago. I`ve been writing songs from I was a kid, so, you know,
when I was in the Gladiators I had to like put that on the back burner.
Because I used to play bass and do harmonies, and, you know, a few lead songs
here and there, you know what I mean. But my role was to play bass and
harmony. What I`m doing now is doing what I really wanted to do, or what I
think I`m
supposed to do. Ranja: So the Boogie Brown Band is your lifelong
dream come true? Clinton: You got it! And I`ll tell you what; I`m
enjoying it.

Ranja: Rumour has it that you`re a very productive songwriter. I`ve heard that you`ve got like several albums worth of music ready, but not
released yet.
Clinton: It`s true and, you know, not yet recorded. Like I say
from way back then I`ve been writing songs. I have songs on cassette, well,
you know, I`m not good at storing stuff so some of those cassettes I can`t even
find. I know some of them are here someplace. And I always have songs for another album. I really do not
have to write a new song to put out an album. But new ones keep coming out,
you know how it go, how you`re always attached to the newest one.
Ranja: So what you actually release is just the very best of all the
music that you write?
Clinton: Even if it`s not the best, it`s the one that I`m presently
attached to. It`s like... as a poet, you know your last poem, the poem
that you wrote yesterday, that`s the one fresh in the mind.
